Rock n’ Roll Ballet starts Oct 18

Tuesdays, 8:30-10 pm
with Kristin Campbell-Taylor

This class is a hybrid of traditional ballet barre, center work, and combos infused with contemporary style, musicality, and fun. All levels are welcome, but having some knowledge of Ballet terminology and movement helps. Kristin warms up using a series of barre combinations and then does work across the floor and a center combo in the last 20 mins of class that be to anything, from Bjork, Radiohead, The Beatles or Heart. Kristin’s class tends to lean toward the sexy, feminine style while being playful and challenging. She encourages all her students to work hard and let go, whether they haven’t danced in years, are avid movers, or have never tried Ballet before! Come give it a try — we’re sure  you will leave feeling amazing!

Ballet shoes not required.

Bollywood Aerobics Class $5 thru September

Bollywood Aerobics
with Rahul Nath

$5 end of summer special!
6 – 7:00 pm

If you want a workout but hate going to the gym and dread the idea of running on a treadmill, then this is the class for you. Lose yourself in this nonstop aerobic cardio workout to Bollywood music and have fun while you lose weight, tone, and strengthen while learning the basics of Bollywood dancing.

The class uses multiple songs over the hour-long class that starts with a warm up, then move into a workout, and finshes with cooldown with an added spiritual technique. This class is great for releasing stress, getting in touch with yourself, and, above all, keeping fit and healthy and looking GREAT!!!!

All levels are welcome and the main foundation of the class is to give NON DANCERS an alternative form of exercise and also to appeal to those who enjoy workouts like Zumba, but Bollywood style!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rahul Nath is from London and began his dancing career at the early age of 8, performing at local charity events and cultural shows. In this time, he was lucky enough to gain distinction in Modern and Classical Indian dancing. In 2002, he returned to dancing after a hiatus, and he went on to perform at top venues such as Wembley Conference Centre, London Carling Apollo and Brixton Academy, performing to hit Bollywood songs. In 2004, he reaffirmed his status by participating in a Bollywood Musical, which also led him to perform at high status events, such as the Zee Cine Awards. Rahul has been seen in big Bollywood blockbusters and videos for top-grossing Bollywood hit songs, in which he has shared the screen with superstars of India.  He also has been seen in national campaigns for Virgin America, Travelzoo, and Intel, and more recently has been a judge on some high profile dance shows in India. And if that was not enough he has also starred and directed in two movies last year that have won many awards on the film festival rounds. Rahul’s passion for dancing is immense – he has been teaching for more than 10 years and is eager to bring Bollywood to Los Angeles with the help of other dedicated performers.

Hip Hop Starts July 21st!

with Kenan Peters!
Thursdays 8:30 – 10:00 pm

Kenan Peters
Originally from Chicago, IL, Kenan has always been inspired and driven by music and performing arts.  With over a decade of musical training in classical and jazz bands (playing the alto saxophone) and only a year of training in Tap, Kenan started dancing professionally while in school at Iowa State University where he joined the Hip Hop Dance Club.  While in school, Kenan taught workshops, classes, solos and competition pieces in Iowa, Minnesota, Chicago, and South Dakota.  Soon thereafter, Kenan started his first collaborative choreography company – 625 Beat Street, with professional choreographer, partner and friend, Jon Paul.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education, Kenan moved to Los Angeles to further pursue his career as a choreographer and dance student. Recently, Kenan has performed for Oscar Meyer (flash mob events), and the Debbie Reynolds 2010 Showcase.  He was also featured in the debut single from the new alternative-pop band: Hot As Sun. He was formally a work-study at Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, where he trained under some of the industry’s best and brightest choreographers.  Kenan is excited to share his world with his students and thrilled to be a part of the Live Arts LA Faculty!

If you get a chance to watch Monday’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette, you should see a familiar LA dance studio. 🙂 On the show, Ashley plans a special dance date that ends in quite a surprise for her date! Looks like there’s going to be plenty of drama in this particular episode as well.

We had fun hosting Ashley and the whole Bachelorette crew at Live Arts LA, and it will be fun to see our favorite place on TV. Look for LALA at 8 pm on June 6, 2011 on ABC or watch it online after it airs at
