This parent/child (ages 3 – 5) creative dance class provides participants the opportunity to explore movement concepts of space, time and energy, develop a variety of dance skills, strengthen the body, and compose original dances. Both children and parents will learn to understand and value their bodies in action, build the connection between body and mind, and increase self-esteem, kinesthetic awareness, and social skills. The class is suitable for all levels, dancers and non-dancers alike, and is centered on playful, creative movement experiences between parent and child. Class begins with group warm-up songs to build focus and mind/body connection. Each week, participants will explore a different movement concept (level, direction, pathway, size, etc.) through a variety of different activities in pairs, small groups and alone. Dancers will respond to different stimuli such as music, stories, poems, props and images in connection with each movement concept. Activities are adapted to each group of students, each day, in order to create the safest environment for creativity, experimentation and play.
